Why your calorie app is wrong about home-cooked food

Home-cooked food has no barcode.

Databases are built from packaged food. A roti made at home, or a stew from a family recipe, is a guess stacked on a guess.

What apps want

100 g

“One serving” means nothing at a dinner table.

Nobody measures in grams at home. People eat in bowls, pieces, spoons and plates, in every cuisine.

Forkbell

Logging takes two minutes, so you stop.

Search, scroll, pick the wrong entry, fix the portion. By day nine most people quit.

What Forkbell does

Four things, done fast. Everything else waits until these are right.

Say it or type it. Logged in seconds.

Two roti, dal, a bowl of yogurt. Or last night's pasta. Forkbell hears the meal, matches each item to verified data with household servings, and logs it. No search results to scroll.

  • Voice or text, in your own words
  • Household servings: bowl, piece, spoon
  • Every number shows its source

After launch

Point the camera at the plate.

A photo of your plate or a barcode on a packet. Forkbell names what it sees, estimates the portions, and lets you fix anything in one tap before it saves.

  • Portions you can adjust
  • Honest about estimates

How it works

  1. Type or say what you ate

In your own words. Two roti, dal, a bowl of yogurt. Or eggs, toast and coffee. No searching, no scrolling.

  2. It matches verified data

Dishes are matched to national food composition tables, USDA and India's IFCT among them, with household servings. Every number shows its source.

  3. Done. Your workout goes in the same log.

Sets, reps and weight next to your meals and your weight trend. One day, one screen.

What's in the first version, and what isn't

The missing pieces come after launch. The first version is small on purpose so it can be fast.

Founder, Forkbell

A note from the founder

I've logged food in most of the big apps. Every one of them made me search for a roti and choose between eleven entries with different calories. So I stopped logging, like everyone does.

Forkbell is the app I wanted: type what I ate, trust the number, get back to my day. If that sounds like what you've been missing, join the list. Early testers get in first, and when you reply to my emails, it's me who reads them.

Questions

When does it launch?

Closed beta from the waitlist in October 2026. Public launch on the App Store and Google Play in November 2026.

Is it free?

Logging food and workouts is free, always. A Pro plan will cover AI logging by voice and photo, insights, and unlimited history.

iOS or Android?

Both, on the same day.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Everything you log can be exported as CSV at any time. Your data is yours.

What happens to my email?

You get one email a week about Forkbell, from a person. Unsubscribe with one tap. We never sell or share it.

Why not just use MyFitnessPal?

If it works for you, keep using it. Forkbell is for people it doesn't work for: it's built around home-cooked food with household servings, starting with cuisines the big databases get wrong, it puts food and workouts in one log, and it's designed so logging a meal takes seconds.

Save your spot

Early testers get the app first and a say in which cuisines the food database gets right first.
